Prison Cookie Cake - Contributed by a Real, Live Convict
Chocolate cream, strawberry, or duplex cookies (14 oz)
1 can Dr Pepper soda
1 small bowl (for icing)
1 oblong Tupperware bowl (2 qt) for cake
* bowls should be microwaveable
To make this cake, simply separate the icing and cookie portions into
separate bowls. Use a plastic knife to scrape off the icing. It's really
easy to do. Use the bowl you intend to bake in to crush your cookies.
(Some use the soda can, but a coffee cup does a great job, and you can
use both hands and sit while doing it.) Take your time and do a good
job, because I believe the better you crush the cookies, the more the cake
will rise in the microwave.
After crushing the cookies, pour about 10 oz of Dr. Pepper over the cookies
and stir. DO NOT OVER-STIR! The remaining 2 ounces of Dr Pepper are
for the cook to enjoy. After cooking several cakes with different cookies and
soda, I think Dr Pepper and chocolate cream cookies make the best cake,
although others work just fine.
Some people use coffee, soda, or peanut butter in their icing, but I think it
makes the cake taste funny. This is a personal thing and you can try diff-
erent things, but sticking to the basic makes a great cake.
The cake requires for minutes in the microwave, and it's recommended to
rotate your cake 1/4 turn every minute if your microwave doesn't have a
turntable. If you turn your cake, don't spend a lot of time admiring it with
the door open. Just give it a quick turn and let it cook. If you don't, your
cake might settle and not be as high as it could be. Let the cake cool a
little before icing.
To make a simple icing, just add water in small amounts (a teaspoon at
a time) to the bowl with your cookie icing and mash until it's smooth and
creamy. Spread icing on cake. For the more adventurous, after cooling
your cake you can divide the cake in half with dental floss and ice the
center of the two layers. The icing absorbs into the cake, making it very
tasty.
Let the cake set up. This is fantastic. Enjoy!
